š Whatās On in Burton This Week
The early May Bank Holiday has arrived - and Burton is making the most of the extra day off in style.
This weekend is absolutely packed, with the Floating Market returning to Shobnall Fields, a fascinating Steaming Day at Claymills Victorian Pumping Station, and, quite frankly, a huge amount of live music dotted across the town and beyond. Whether you fancy a relaxed wander by the canal, something a bit different, or a night out with a soundtrack, youāre well covered.
Alongside the events, weāve got your weekend weather outlook, the latest Burton petrol and diesel prices, and a fresh round of Business Bites to keep you in the loop.
Thereās also important local updates, including news of a clampdown on untaxed vehicles and details of upcoming overnight resurfacing work on Station Street - planned to keep disruption to a minimum during the day.
In short: more time off, plenty going on, and (hopefully) a bit of sunshine thrown in for good measure.

Residents in Burton on Trent have seen a noticeable rise in vehicle enforcement as local councils, alongside the DVLA and Staffordshire County Councilās enforcement team, launched Operation Clampdown across key neighborhoods like Anglesey, Stapenhill, Shobnall, Horninglow, and Winshill.
This operation targeted untaxed vehicles and inconsiderate parking, resulting in 139 untaxed cars identified, several fines issued, eight vehicles seized, and others clamped or ticketed - especially on Uxbridge Street and Canal Street.
Abandoned vehicles were flagged, and serious cases of fly-tipping were discovered in Shobnall, prompting new investigations.
Councillor Simon Slater praised the coordinated effort, highlighting its impact on public nuisance issues and the vital role of community reporting.
The crackdown is ongoing, sending a strong message to drivers: untaxed, abandoned, or illegally parked cars will be swiftly dealt with as the initiative expands. Read More... |
Burton drivers and businesses can anticipate smoother commutes as Station Street is set for a significant upgrade next month.
Staffordshire County Council is investing £208,000 to resurface Station Street, stretching from the Burton Place car park entrance on Worthington Way down to The Dial.
Work begins Monday, 11 May, and will last around three weeks, with tasks scheduled overnight from Monday evening to Friday morning to minimize daytime disruptions.
There will be no work on weekends or bank holidays, letting the route remain open for day-to-day activities.
Crews will also handle ironwork repairs, drain clearing, and new road markings, ensuring a thorough refresh rather than a temporary fix.
Businesses and pedestrian access will stay available throughout.
The council coordinated these improvements with Derby Road works to avoid clashing closures, promising a noticeably smoother ride for everyone. Read More... |

I've been to a lot of places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito either. I hear no one recognises you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport. You have to be driven there. I have made several trips. |
