Waterstones turns a new page with bigger Burton distribution hub

A major investment in Branston reinforces Burton's role at the heart of Waterstones' UK distribution.

Waterstones is expanding its Burton-on-Trent operations with a move to a larger distribution centre in Branston, underlining the town’s importance to the bookseller’s future.

The company has secured a new 300,000 sq ft warehouse at Indurent Park Burton, where it will relocate from its current base at Centrum 100 after almost 20 years.

Rather than leaving the area, Waterstones is keeping its distribution operations firmly rooted in Burton while investing in a purpose-built facility designed to support the next stage of its growth.

The larger site will give the retailer extra capacity for storing and distributing books, helping it support its growing network of bookshops, online orders and expanding product range.

Located on a 14.7-acre site off the A38 in Branston, the new warehouse has been designed for modern manufacturing, storage and distribution. Around 10 per cent of the roof is already fitted with solar panels, with the option to increase coverage in the future.

To ensure a smooth transition, Waterstones will operate both its existing Centrum 100 site and the new Branston facility alongside each other for a period, allowing orders to continue without disruption.

The move is another vote of confidence in Burton as a logistics hub, with the town continuing to attract major businesses thanks to its excellent transport links and strategic location.

For book lovers, the next bestseller could soon be making its way across the country from an even bigger Burton base.
