Burton Families Can Book Free Summer Holiday Activities for Children
Eligible children can enjoy up to 16 fully funded sessions during the school holidays, with meals included at most activities.
Families in Burton and across Staffordshire can now book places on this summer’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, offering thousands of children the chance to enjoy a fun-filled holiday packed with activities, new experiences and healthy meals.
Funded by the Department for Education and delivered by Staffordshire County Council, the scheme is available to children and young people aged between five and 16 who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals.
This year’s programme includes more than 42,000 places across the county, with activities running throughout the summer holidays at a range of venues, including several in Burton-on-Trent.
Eligible children can attend up to 16 fully funded sessions, with a nutritious meal provided at most activities. Many providers are also offering paid-for places, helping even more families take part.
There is plenty to choose from, including sports, dance, drama, creative workshops, outdoor adventures, wellbeing activities and water sports. Whether youngsters want to burn off energy, learn a new skill or simply try something different, there is something to suit a wide range of interests.
The programme’s expanded offer for teenagers continues this year, with several providers offering opportunities that go beyond traditional holiday activities. Alongside the fun, some sessions focus on personal development, training and building skills for the future.
One organisation, Bee Active, is offering teenagers the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Sports Leaders UK Level 1 qualification. The course helps young people develop leadership skills, confidence and practical experience through sport while earning a qualification that could benefit them in later education or employment.
Nick Lakin, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said the programme plays an important role during the school holidays.
He said: “Our summer HAF programme is about much more than keeping children busy. It’s about helping them grow in confidence, learn new skills and have positive experiences during the school holidays.
“With more than 42,000 places available and up to 16 sessions per child, families can really benefit from what’s on offer this summer.”
The scheme has become a popular part of the summer holidays for many Staffordshire families, providing children with opportunities to stay active, make new friends and create lasting memories while school is out.
