Burton gardeners will see no increase in brown bin garden waste collection fees for 2026, as East Staffordshire Borough Council confirms the annual rate will remain at £40, with an early bird offer of £35 still available.
This brings rare relief for households facing rising costs elsewhere.
Though the charge was introduced only last year - ending years of free collection - many locals continue to feel it’s a thorny issue.
Council leaders weighed several pricing options, including inflation-based increases, but chose to keep fees steady, offering 23 fortnightly collections between January and December 2026.
Nearly 27,000 households have signed up this year, with a strong 73% snapping up the early bird discount.
Even so, the service is expected to operate at a loss of around £139,000.
Recycling rates have fallen since the fee’s introduction, yet fears about increased fly-tipping have not materialized, offering some reassurance to the community. Read More... |
