When is the Statutes Fair in Burton-on-Trent?

One of Burton’s longest-running traditions returns to the town centre next month, with the Statutes Fair bringing three days of rides, games and family entertainment.

This year’s fair will run from Sunday 4th October to Tuesday 6th October 2026, taking over the Market Place and surrounding streets, including High Street, Lichfield Street, New Street, Manor Croft and Manor Drive.

Statutes Fair opening times

The fair will be open at the following times:

• Sunday 4th October, 12:30pm to 11:00pm
• Monday 5th October, 12:00pm to 11:00pm
• Tuesday 6th October, 12:00pm to 11:00pm

Pat Collins Fun Fairs will begin arriving in Burton on the evening of Saturday 3rd October to set up the rides and attractions ready for Sunday’s opening.

Road and car park closures

Road and car park closures will come into force from 4:00pm on Saturday 3rd October and remain in place until 6:00am on Wednesday 7th October.

The extended closure gives fairground operators time to dismantle and remove the attractions after Tuesday night, before the streets are cleaned and reopened.

The following road closures will be in place:

• Market Place, closed to all traffic.
• High Street, closed to through traffic from its junction with Station Street to Lichfield Street.
• New Street, closed to through traffic between High Street and Union Street.
• Lichfield Street, closed to traffic between High Street and Bond Street.
• Abbey Street, closed to traffic between Lichfield Street and Fleet Street.

Anyone travelling through Burton town centre during the fair should allow extra time and use alternative routes where necessary.

More than 100 years of Statutes Fair history in Burton

The Statutes Fair has been part of Burton life for generations, with Pat Collins Fun Fairs associated with the town for more than 100 years.

Today’s event has its roots in the traditional hiring fairs once held across Britain. Burton’s fair was historically staged on the first Monday and Tuesday after Michaelmas, giving employers and workers an opportunity to meet and agree employment for the coming year.

Over time, the hiring element disappeared and the event developed into the funfair Burton residents know today.

For three days this October, the town centre will once again be filled with fairground rides, attractions, games and stalls as the Statutes Fair continues one of Burton’s oldest annual traditions.
