Shobnall Road in Burton has officially reopened following extensive repairs and the introduction of a new, safer crossing.

As part of a wider Staffordshire County Council project earlier this year, a new shared footpath and cycleway was added to Shobnall Road to link up a missing stretch of the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 54, between the A38 overpass and Shobnall Leisure Complex.

However, during the work, engineers uncovered hidden defects beneath the road surface that required more extensive repairs than first planned. These extra works have now been completed, with the finishing touches added on Monday 17 November.

One key improvement is a parallel crossing for both cyclists and pedestrians, designed to boost safety, especially for those traveling to Shobnall Nursery and Primary School.

So next time you’re heading down Shobnall Road – on foot, bike, or in the car – you’ll be travelling on a smoother, safer route that’s better connected and built to last.

I saw a man going up Ashby Road hill with a shopping trolley full of horseshoes, four-leaf clovers and rabbits feet.
I thought, "Wow, he's pushing his luck".
