All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton!

Thursday 5th March 2026

📅 What’s On in Burton This Week

Another week, another packed line-up of things happening across Burton.

This weekend’s events diary brings everything from live music and comedy nights to community walks, quizzes and a scooter fair, so whether you fancy a relaxed afternoon out or a lively evening, there’s plenty to choose from.

One of the standout events is Friday’s 60th anniversary celebration for Burton Folk Club, marking six decades of music and memories. The special evening at Shobnall Sports & Social Club will see musicians past and present come together to celebrate one of the country’s longest-running folk clubs.

Football fans will also have their eyes on Burton Albion’s home game against Stevenage on Saturday at the Pirelli Stadium. With the season heading into its final stretch, every point counts for the Brewers now, so it could be an important afternoon in their campaign.

Elsewhere across the weekend you’ll find everything from a GeoAdventure walk from Moira Furnace to Hicks Lodge, a psychic night inside Burton Gaol, and a Drag Queen Bingo event in Swadlincote, alongside plenty of live music in pubs and clubs around the area.

Beyond the events diary, we’ve also got a few local updates for you. There’s news about free Easter holiday clubs for children, details of the Newton Park Hotel reopening in early April, and a look at a hidden gem of a restaurant right in the town centre – 99 Station Street.

And of course, we’ve also got the weekend weather forecast to help you plan your plans.

So grab a brew, scroll on, and see what’s happening around Burton this week… 👇

Next week at The Brewhouse...

My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady is an award-winning musical by Lerner and Loewe. It is the tale of Eliza Doolittle, a young flower seller with an unmistakable Cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins to flourish, and we see just how much she also teaches him.

Filled with well-known musical theatre classics like “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?”, “The Rain in Spain”, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “Get Me to the Church on Time” and many more.

Back on the Burton stage for the first time in 20 years, you won’t want to miss this musical theatre favourite

at The Brewhouse Arts Centre from Wednesday 11th to Saturday 14th March.

Burton Folk Club is marking its remarkable 60th anniversary with a special free concert this Friday, 6th March, at Shobnall Sports & Social Club, starting at 7:30pm.

The evening promises a lively celebration of the club’s storied past, featuring returning musicians and community members who’ve shaped Burton’s folk music scene.

Founder Dave Bull, who started the club in 1966 as a teenager, will headline the night, alongside past resident performer Andy Wall and others.

Current organiser Geoff Noble, Dave’s younger brother, will host and perform, keeping the tradition vibrant.

Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to support Burton YMCA Food Bank with a donation.

The night will blend music, memories, and community spirit  - a true testament to a local institution still singing strong after six decades.

The historic Newton Park Hotel is set to reopen in Burton on Tuesday, April 7th, marking an exciting new beginning for a beloved local landmark.

After several years away from hospitality, during which the building was used to house asylum seekers under previous ownership by Mercure Hotels, the venue has undergone significant restoration since its 2022 purchase by Raky Hotels.

The reopening promises to boost the town’s hospitality scene, with jobs, venues for family events, and more visitors returning to Burton.

Locals can look forward to seeing Newton Park Hotel shine again — with its doors once more open for visitors, celebrations and a good Sunday lunch.

Nestled at the quiet end of Burton’s town centre, 99 Station Street stands out as a true local hidden gem for those seeking delicious, seasonal cuisine.

Led by husband-and-wife team Dan and Andrea Pilkington, this restaurant has thrived since 2008 thanks to their passion for quality and resilience in a changing industry.

Dan, originally the head chef, and Andrea took ownership early on, making the restaurant not just a business but a community cornerstone.

Emphasizing locally sourced ingredients - including beef from Abbots Bromley and lamb from Anslow - they pride themselves on homemade breads and ice creams, keeping everything in-house while ensuring affordability.

Guests enjoy fine dining without the fuss in a relaxed, contemporary space, with no rush or pressure to finish.

Andrea’s warm welcome and Dan’s kitchen expertise create an inviting experience that’s distinctly Burton.

I was chatting to a girl at a party last weekend. She said that people call her Vivaldi. I asked "is that because you're a musician and compose your own music?" She said "no, it's because my name is Viv and I work at Aldi."
