New Wool Shop Opens in Burton - With a Star-Studded Twist |
Crafty Attic launches above Helen’s Bakehouse with expert guests, local makers, and a knitting appeal for premature babies |
Burton’s wool-loving community has something new to get tangled up in this December, with the arrival of Crafty Attic, a specialist wool and haberdashery shop opening above Helen’s Bakehouse and Tearooms in the Market Place.
The new creative hub will officially open on Saturday 6th December with a special appearance from Stephanie Thompson, a contestant on Channel 4’s The Game of Wool - a reality competition to find Britain’s top knitter, hosted by Tom Daley.
Stephanie, a Derby-based entrepreneur and self-confessed knitting enthusiast, was chosen from thousands to take part in the show and made it into the top eight before bowing out earlier this month. She’ll be in town to cut the ribbon at 1pm, and will also be on hand throughout the event (from 12pm–2pm) to share tips, talk patterns, and meet fellow wool lovers.
As well as a wide selection of quality yarns, threads, buttons, and sewing essentials, Crafty Attic also features a local makers’ market with ‘rent-a-shelf’ space for independent artists and crafters. With stock from trusted suppliers like Stylecraft, and regular new arrivals, the shop aims to be the go-to destination for knitters, crocheters, and sewing enthusiasts in the area.
And it’s not just about supplies - Crafty Attic is also calling on local knitters to get involved in a charity campaign supporting neonatal units at Burton and Derby hospitals. Visitors can collect free patterns in store to knit hats, socks, cardigans, or bonding blankets for premature babies, with all donations collected and delivered to the hospitals by the end of the year.
Crafty Attic promises to be a cosy, creative space right in the heart of town - offering supplies, support, and inspiration for Burton’s crafty community. Whether you’re an expert stitcher or just purl-curious, pop in and have a natter over some needles. |
