Stapenhill Road Closed for Essential Works - Here’s What You Need to Know |
Busy Stapenhill Road to close 16–27 February for essential daytime maintenance works between 8am and 4pm |
One of Burton’s busiest routes, Stapenhill Road, will be closed during the day from Monday 16 February through to Friday 27 February while essential maintenance work takes place.
The works are being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and include patching, ironwork repairs, and improvements to the footway. In short: it’s the sort of behind-the-scenes work that keeps our roads safe and in good condition - not glamorous, but very necessary.
Why now?
These works have already been delayed twice - once due to the closure of Branston Bridge, and again after concerns about timing last November. However, they now need to go ahead before surface dressing is carried out later this year.
February half-term has been chosen as the least disruptive window (and let’s be honest, there’s never a perfect time to close a road like Stapenhill Road).
Closing the road during the day means the team can complete the work more quickly than if temporary traffic lights were used throughout.
🗓 Week One: Full Daytime Closure (16–20 February)
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, though you may need to approach from a different direction depending on where the team is working that day. HGV Restrictions
While work takes place between St Peter’s Roundabout and Spring Terrace Road, that junction will be manned to prevent heavy goods vehicles using it as a shortcut. This is expected to be an issue only for the first day or two. Additional ‘No HGV’ signs will also be placed at both ends of Brizlincote Valley to reinforce the existing weight limits. 🚦 Week Two: Temporary Traffic Lights (23–27 February)
For the second week, between 8am and 4pm, the remainder of the works will be completed under temporary traffic lights rather than a full road closure. Again:
Borough Road past the train station will remain open, which should ease some of the pressure on surrounding routes.
Disruption will be monitored throughout the works.
The Bigger Picture
Stapenhill Road is a key link between the A444 and the A511, and while a daytime closure is never welcome news, completing the work now means a smoother surface and fewer problems later in the year.
In the grand scheme of things, two weeks of managed disruption should help keep one of Burton’s main arteries in good shape for the months ahead - and with lighter half-term traffic, this is about as sensible a time as any.
If you travel this route regularly, it may be worth allowing a little extra time over the next fortnight.
We’ll keep an eye on how things progress and update you if needed. |
