Look to the Skies: Red Arrows to Fly Over Nearby for VJ Day
Heads up, Burton — quite literally. Today, Friday 15th August, the legendary Red Arrows will be soaring across the skies just south of town as part of the national VJ Day commemorations.
While they won’t be flying directly over Burton-on-Trent town centre, eagle-eyed residents might catch a glimpse between 1:00pm and 1:05pm, as the iconic red jets streak past in the distance. Timings are subject to change, of course, but these are the expected timings so far.
The flypast route will take them from Donisthorpe, over Coton in the Elms, and onwards towards Alrewas and the National Memorial Arboretum, where His Majesty King Charles III will be attending a ceremony to mark the day.
VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) commemorates the end of World War II in 1945 and is a time to remember those who served and sacrificed for peace.
If you’re hoping to spot the Red Arrows in action, your best bet will be to head to the southern edge of Burton or find a high vantage point with a clear view in the direction of Alrewas.
You may not hear the roar of the jets, but with any luck, you'll catch their unmistakable red, white and blue trails streaking through the sky — a proud reminder of national heritage flying right past our patch.
