Thursday 19th March 2026

📅 What’s On in Burton This Week

Spring is starting to make itself known around Burton, and there’s plenty happening across the town and surrounding villages this weekend.

From live music and theatre to football at the Pirelli Stadium, comedy at The Brewhouse Arts Centre, and the ever-popular CAMRA Beer & Cider Festival at Burton Town Hall, there’s no shortage of ways to keep busy over the next few days. There's the Swadlincote Festival of Words too, alongside quizzes, karaoke, concerts and a vintage fair just down the road in Uttoxeter.

Elsewhere in this week’s newsletter, we’ve got the story of the Castle Gresley man who accidentally turned himself blue before ending up at Queen's Hospital Burton, plus Greg James cycling right through Burton as part of his 1,000km charity challenge for Comic Relief.

We’ve also got details of a new survey asking residents for their views on future EV charging hubs around Burton and across East Staffordshire.

And of course, you’ll find the weekend weather forecast and our full guide to what’s on over the next week or so.

Let’s see what’s happening around Burton this weekend...

Burton upon Trent residents are being urged to help shape the future of electric vehicle charging across East Staffordshire.

East Staffordshire Borough Council, in partnership with Staffordshire County Council, has opened a short public survey to gather local views on new electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs at council and community sites.

The survey, open until 17 April, asks about possible hub locations, design, accessibility, and pricing.

Feedback will guide future plans, and anyone can take part - no need to own an EV.

There are already EV charging points at Cooper Square and Maltings car parks, while Uttoxeter boasts a solar-powered hub generating energy for 64,000 miles of driving yearly.

This initiative aims to make clean transport more accessible across the area.

BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James brought excitement to Burton on Monday as he cycled through on his epic charity journey for Comic Relief.

Greg is tackling a challenging 1,000km ride from Weymouth to Edinburgh, aiming to finish on Red Nose Day.

His unique twist: he’s doing the journey on a tandem bike.

Locals in areas like Rosliston, Stapenhill, and Newton Road turned out to cheer as Greg and his guests passed by, creating a lively, supportive atmosphere.

Despite a famously tough fundraising challenge in 2018, Greg is back in the saddle, helping raise money for projects that ensure people can eat, sleep, and feel safe.

He’s joined by surprise guests at different stages, making the arduous miles a little brighter for both himself and supporters across Burton and beyond.

Queen’s Hospital Burton staff were stunned when Tommy Lynch, 42, arrived looking completely blue after a night in his Castle Gresley home.

Lynch appeared almost Avatar-like, sparking immediate concern and drawing quick attention from the A&E team.

Fortunately, it wasn’t a rare illness causing his vivid appearance.

Instead, brand-new navy bedsheets, a recent gift, had left dye all over his skin after just two nights - the result of skipping that crucial pre-wash.

The truth was finally revealed when a doctor’s alcohol swab turned bright blue during examination, setting off waves of relief and plenty of laughter among medical staff.

Lynch eventually went home, still streaked with blue for days, but a little wiser.

Locals are now reminded: wash new bedding before use - or risk becoming Burton’s latest legend at Queen’s Hospital A&E.

Nestled at the quiet end of Burton’s town centre, 99 Station Street stands out as a true local hidden gem for those seeking delicious, seasonal cuisine.

Led by husband-and-wife team Dan and Andrea Pilkington, this restaurant has thrived since 2008 thanks to their passion for quality and resilience in a changing industry.

Dan, originally the head chef, and Andrea took ownership early on, making the restaurant not just a business but a community cornerstone.

Emphasizing locally sourced ingredients - including beef from Abbots Bromley and lamb from Anslow - they pride themselves on homemade breads and ice creams, keeping everything in-house while ensuring affordability.

Guests enjoy fine dining without the fuss in a relaxed, contemporary space, with no rush or pressure to finish.

Andrea’s warm welcome and Dan’s kitchen expertise create an inviting experience that’s distinctly Burton.
