All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton!

Thursday 16th July 2026

📅 What’s On in Burton This Week

Hello and welcome to this week’s InBurton Insider.

Summer is in full swing, and this weekend's packed with plenty of reasons to get out and about. Burton Albion welcome Leicester City to the Pirelli Stadium for their first home pre-season friendly, while the popular Barton under Needwood Steam Rally & Family Festival rolls into town with vintage vehicles, family activities and fundraising for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

It's also very much the season for fêtes, festivals and community events, with everything from Willington Carnival and a summer fête in Stapenhill to food festivals, vintage fairs and a charity tractor run. Add in plenty of live music across the area, and there's something happening whichever way you turn.

As always, we've rounded up the latest news bites from around Burton, this week's cheapest petrol and diesel prices, the weekend weather forecast, and, of course, our full guide to everything happening across the area.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Bite-sized updates from the businesses that help make Burton tick.

🎶 Friday Voices has been crowned winners of the Midlands Choir of the Year competition. The Burton based choir took the title during this year's Lichfield Festival.

⚽ Burton Albion's first pre season friendly ended in a goalless draw away at Alfreton Town.

☕ A new coffee shop, called The Coffee House, will be opening soon on Swan Walk in Burton town centre.

Barton Steam Rally Returns This Weekend

The Barton Under Needwood Steam Rally & Family Festival returns on 18 and 19 July, offering two days of family fun while raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

Visitors can enjoy classic and vintage vehicles, arena displays, archery, axe throwing, medieval crafts, a fairground, craft stalls and even the chance to steer a real steam traction engine. The charity's decommissioned helicopter will also be on site for visitors to explore.

There'll be plenty to eat too, with everything from burgers and hog roast to jacket potatoes, crêpes, cakes and Ashmores ice cream.

Entry is £9 for adults, with free admission for children aged 16 and under when accompanied by an adult. No advance booking is needed – simply pay by cash or card at the gate.

Waterstones is expanding its Burton-on-Trent presence with a move to a larger 300,000 sq ft distribution centre at Indurent Park Burton in Branston.

The bookseller is relocating from its long-standing Centrum 100 base, where it has operated for nearly 20 years, while staying firmly rooted in the Burton area.

The new facility, set on a 14.7-acre site off the A38, will provide extra capacity to support Waterstones' growing network of bookshops, online orders, and expanding product range.

The warehouse already features solar panels covering 10 per cent of the roof, with scope to increase that coverage in the future.

To avoid disruption, both sites will run simultaneously during the transition period.

The move is a further vote of confidence in Burton as a logistics hub, reinforcing the town's reputation for attracting major businesses thanks to its strong transport links and strategic location.

I went to Uttoxeter races this week, but unfortunately lost money on 3 horses, called Sunshine, Moonlight, and Good Times.

I blame it on the bookie.
