All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton!

Thursday 16th April 2026

📅 What’s On in Burton This Week

It’s shaping up to be another lively weekend across Burton and the surrounding villages, with plenty happening over the next few days.

As always, there’s a plethora of live music to enjoy, with performances taking place in pubs and venues across the area from Thursday through to Sunday.

Alongside the music, there are plenty of other highlights too, including comedian Justin Moorhouse at The Brewhouse on Friday, and the 23rd Burton Competitive Music Festival taking place at The Brewhouse on Sunday. You’ll also find markets, community events and even an archery taster session among this weekend’s activities.

Elsewhere in this week’s newsletter, we have the weekend weather forecast, an important update on the new parking charges at the retail park car park by Cineworld and Matalan, and news of the Burton couple who have won a national competition to launch a new theatre school in the town.

We’re also introducing two new sections this week - Burton Business Bites and Burton Fuel Watch. If you find them useful, please do drop me a reply and let me know.

🎧 Well known DJ, Joel Corry, will perform a set at Isabel's, Station Street on the 8th May.

Coming to The Brewhouse in October...

Seann Walsh

If you’ve been watching comedian Seann Walsh on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa recently, you might be surprised to learn that you’ll soon have the chance to see him right here in Burton.

The award-winning stand-up comedian is bringing his brand-new tour show “This Is Torture” to The Brewhouse Arts Centre this autumn.

After a sell-out tour in 2023, Walsh returns with a fresh hour of sharp observational comedy, packed with his trademark high-energy delivery and the brilliantly frustrated storytelling that has made him one of the UK’s most recognisable stand-ups.

Described by The Guardian as “unquestionably the best observational comic of his generation”, Walsh has built a reputation for finding the humour in everyday frustrations - something that clearly inspired the title of this new show.

Expect plenty of quick wit, relatable stories and the kind of laugh-out-loud moments that have made him a regular on television and one of the most popular comics on the UK touring circuit.

Ben and Rachel, a husband-and-wife team from Burton-on-Trent, have won the prestigious Future Founders Competition by Razzamataz Theatre Schools.

The victory secures them a valuable franchise opportunity and a £10,000 business grant, empowering them to launch Razzamataz Burton on Trent in September 2026.

Their new school will offer children ages 4-18 the chance to build confidence, creativity, and life skills through dance, drama, and singing in a supportive environment.

Rachel draws on her teaching experience, while Ben, a former performer turned accounts manager, is excited to reconnect with his artistic passion.

The judges praised their vision for inclusivity and community focus, highlighting their commitment to making performing arts accessible to all local children.

As Ben and Rachel begin their training, local families can look forward to a new theatre school right in Burton-on-Trent.

Burton’s Middleway Retail Park has introduced a new parking system following a change in ownership, leaving many locals adjusting to tighter restrictions.

Visitors now receive two hours of free parking - down from the original four.

After this, charges range from £3 for up to 3 hours to £10 for 10 hours, with even a minute over the limit triggering fees.

Payment can be made onsite or via the RingGo app (code 56150).

Popular spots like Cineworld, Mecca Bingo, Everlast Gym, and Matalan offer an extra two hours free if visitors register their vehicles on dedicated tablets inside.

Failing to pay or register could result in fines of up to £100.

This update means regulars should double-check parking rules to avoid unpleasant surprises during their next visit.

Nestled at the quiet end of Burton’s town centre, 99 Station Street stands out as a true local hidden gem for those seeking delicious, seasonal cuisine.

Led by husband-and-wife team Dan and Andrea Pilkington, this restaurant has thrived since 2008 thanks to their passion for quality and resilience in a changing industry.

Dan, originally the head chef, and Andrea took ownership early on, making the restaurant not just a business but a community cornerstone.

Emphasizing locally sourced ingredients - including beef from Abbots Bromley and lamb from Anslow - they pride themselves on homemade breads and ice creams, keeping everything in-house while ensuring affordability.

Guests enjoy fine dining without the fuss in a relaxed, contemporary space, with no rush or pressure to finish.

Andrea’s warm welcome and Dan’s kitchen expertise create an inviting experience that’s distinctly Burton.
