This week at The Brewhouse...

My Fair Lady

My Fair Lady is an award-winning musical by Lerner and Loewe. It is the tale of Eliza Doolittle, a young flower seller with an unmistakable Cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins to flourish, and we see just how much she also teaches him.

Filled with well-known musical theatre classics like “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?”, “The Rain in Spain”, “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “Get Me to the Church on Time” and many more.

Back on the Burton stage for the first time in 20 years, you won’t want to miss this musical theatre favourite

Staffordshire residents are being urged to join a county-wide campaign to protect local farmland from large-scale solar developments.

Staffordshire County Council reports rising numbers of solar panel and battery storage proposals on agricultural land, sparking concerns over the loss of space for food production.

Council cabinet member Andrew Mynors supports renewable energy but stresses the importance of a balanced national strategy that safeguards both food and energy security.

Many local communities feel overwhelmed by the current planning process, according to Mynors, who emphasizes that solar projects should focus on rooftops and brownfield sites, rather than prime countryside.

The “Stop the Solar Land Grab” campaign invites residents to sign petitions, write to MPs, and share the initiative, aiming to amplify Staffordshire’s voice and influence future national policy.

Further details and a video message from Cllr Mynors are available on the county council’s website.

Shobnall Leisure Complex has unveiled brand-new padel courts, giving Burton locals a fresh opportunity to try one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports.

Officially opened on 9th March, the courts are now open for bookings, inviting players of all abilities to experience padel’s unique blend of tennis and squash.

Unlike the town’s existing courts, which are often found in private clubs, the Shobnall courts are fully accessible within a public leisure facility, making this fast-paced, social sport available to everyone.

Padel is easy to pick up and welcomes both complete beginners and racket-sport enthusiasts.

Operated by Everyone Active, the council-run centre is now taking bookings, giving the Burton community a vibrant, engaging new way to stay active close to home.

Boyes, a well-known discount chain, is set to open a new store in Burton Place, filling the vacant unit formerly occupied by Wilko in Burton town centre.

The retailer’s latest move will breathe new life into Worthington Walk and offer Burton shoppers a wide choice of household and family products.

Boyes operates nearly 90 stores nationwide, recognised for its traditional department store format and a selection of approximately 30,000 items, from homeware and clothing to crafts, DIY, and seasonal goods.

Hints of the new store surfaced with recent job listings for roles in Burton upon Trent, signaling preparations are well underway.

While an exact opening date has yet to be confirmed, recruitment is already under way and the store is expected to open later this year, bringing a wide range of affordable household and family goods to Burton town centre.
