Staffordshire County Council announces major infrastructure projects to enhance local roads |
With the full reopening of Branston Bridge, Staffordshire County Council is set to commence several significant roadworks in Burton on Trent from July through September 2025.
These projects aim to improve traffic flow and safety across the area.
Shobnall Road Enhancements
From 19 July to 10 August, crews will construct a shared footpath and cycle lane on Shobnall Road, accompanied by a new zebra crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.
These efforts are coordinated with gas main works by GTC to minimise disruption.
Orchard Street, New Street, and Union Street Junction Resurfacing
Between 14 July and 8 August, resurfacing will occur on the Orchard Street, New Street, and Union Street Junction.
Overnight closures are scheduled from 21 July, operating from 7 pm to 6 am.
Lichfield Street, High Street and New Street Junction Resurfacing
From 21 July to 11 August, Lichfield Street, High Street and New Street Junction will undergo resurfacing.
Timing these works during summer ensures optimal conditions for a high-quality finish and extends the road surface's lifespan, the council have said.
Derby Turn Roundabout Major Scheme
Starting 11 August and continuing until 10 September, a major highway scheme will commence on the Derby Turn Roundabout.
This project is scheduled to begin after the completion of the Shobnall Road works, as this route will serve as a diversion.
Stanton Road and Violet Way Roundabout Resurfacing
Between 11 August and 22 August, resurfacing will take place on Stanton Road and the Violet Way Roundabout.
The council have stated that conducting these works in summer aims to achieve the best quality finish and prolong the road surface's durability.
A511 Ashby Road Works
Work on the A511 Ashby Road is also on the cards but is being replanned to prevent conflicts with other key routes. Further details will be provided once finalised.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and stay updated on these developments.
The council said "These may seem like a lot of roadworks, but our crews will be working hard to keep disruption to a minimum. Thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works."
