Swadlincote Event Shows How Tech Can Help Older People Stay Independent |
Find out how smart home gadgets and community services are helping older residents stay in their own homes with confidence. |
SWADLINCOTE – A special event at Swadlincote Market later this month will shine a spotlight on how modern technology can help older adults and people with additional needs stay safe, independent, and happy in their own homes for longer.
Taking place on Friday, 26 September, from 9am to 2pm, the drop-in event is open to anyone curious about how smart home devices and digital tools are transforming the way we support independent living.
From voice-activated assistants to clever fall detectors and community alarm systems, the showcase aims to demonstrate how the latest tech can offer peace of mind - not just to users, but to their families, friends and carers too. And let’s be honest, anything that means fewer frantic calls and more reassurance is worth a look.
It’s not just about gadgets, either. Visitors will also have the chance to speak to a range of local organisations who work closely with Derbyshire County Council to support wellbeing. Groups attending include Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, Healthwatch Derbyshire, Derbyshire Carers Association, and teams supporting mental health and sensory needs.
The event forms part of Derbyshire County Council’s wider push to use technology in more creative and useful ways, helping people live life on their own terms - without rushing into residential care.
Health and social care professionals are also encouraged to attend, with demonstrations on how everyday devices like Alexa, fall alarms, and health monitoring apps can make a big difference in supporting the people they work with.
For those who can’t make it in person, there’ll also be a range of free online webinars throughout the week. These sessions will cover topics including how smart tech can help reduce accidents, avoid hospital visits, and support people with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health challenges - as well as advice for unpaid carers.
It’s all about giving people more choice, more control, and more comfort in the place they call home. |
