A Fresh Chapter for Newton Park Hotel as Reopening Date Announced

A Fresh Chapter for Newton Park Hotel as Reopening Date Announced

A familiar Burton landmark returns to its roots as a place for celebrations, meals and overnight stays.

One of Burton’s best-known hotels is preparing to open its doors once again, with Newton Park Hotel now planning to welcome guests from Tuesday 7th April.

The reopening had originally been scheduled for March, but the owners say the decision was made to allow a little more time to complete work at the site.

In a statement released this week, they said:
"After discussions with the owners and the contractors on site, the very difficult decision has been made to postpone our opening until 7th April. We want to be perfect, and realise it will take a little longer."

A Building With History - And Resilience

Many Burton residents will remember that the hotel closed to the public several years ago when, under previous ownership by Mercure Hotels, it was used to accommodate asylum seekers. It later changed hands in 2022 when it was purchased by Raky Hotels, with the building continuing in that role until 2024.

It’s fair to say the period sparked plenty of conversation locally. The hotel - a prominent part of Burton’s hospitality scene - wasn’t operating in its usual way, and the building itself inevitably showed signs of heavy use over time.

But now, after several months of work behind the scenes, the owners say they have focused on restoring the property and preparing it properly for guests once again.

Returning to Its Former Glory

The Newton Park Hotel has long been admired for its attractive setting and its potential as a venue for celebrations, Sunday lunches, weddings and weekend stays. Reopening it to the public is undoubtedly a positive step for the town’s hospitality offer.

A fully operational hotel means more local jobs, more visitors coming into Burton, and another venue available for family events, business meetings, and community gatherings. In short, it’s another building back in use - and that’s always good news.

While opinions may differ about the recent past, there’s broad agreement on one thing: it’s good to see an established Burton landmark welcoming guests again.

If the reopening goes smoothly, it could mark the start of a steady revival for the venue.

For Burton, it’s another sign that our town continues to adapt, evolve, and - perhaps most importantly - keep moving forward. And we’ll raise a glass to that.
