Parking Changes at Middleway Retail Park: What You Need to Know

Parking Changes at Middleway Retail Park: What You Need to Know

New parking rules now apply at the retail park home to Burton’s Cineworld cinema and Matalan - with drivers urged to check the updated time limits to avoid a £100 charge.

Share:

Many Burton residents will be used to popping into the Middleway Retail Park and leaving their car for a few hours without giving it a second thought. For years, the car park allowed up to four hours of free parking - more than enough time for a cinema trip, a workout, or a wander around town.

However, that has now changed.

The retail park has recently come under new ownership, and with that comes a new parking system and tariff structure which began this week. The biggest change is the amount of time you can park for free.

The New Parking Tariffs

Under the new system, drivers now receive two hours of free parking.

After that, charges apply.

  • 2 hours – Free
  • 3 hours – £3
  • 5 hours – £5
  • 10 hours – £10

The important thing to remember is that even exceeding the two-hour limit by a minute moves you into the paid period.

So if you stay longer than two hours, you will need to pay the appropriate fee using the RingGo app (location code 56150) or the on-site payment system.

Cinema, Gym and Other Visitors

The retail park isn’t just a car park - it also serves several popular venues around its perimeter including:

  • Cineworld
  • Mecca Bingo
  • Everlast Gym
  • Matalan

To help customers who plan to stay longer, these businesses will have tablets inside their premises where visitors can register their vehicle registration number.

Doing this gives an additional two hours of free parking on top of the standard two hours.

For example:

  • Standard free parking: 2 hours
  • Register inside Cineworld: +2 hours
  • Total free parking: 4 hours

This should cover the length of most cinema visits or longer gym sessions.

Don’t Get Caught Out

Because the old four-hour free rule was in place for so long, it’s easy to see how some people might park out of habit and assume nothing has changed.

However, the car park operator has stated that drivers who fail to pay the correct fee could face a parking charge of up to £100.

In short, if you’re heading to the cinema, gym, bingo or shops at Middleway Retail Park, it’s worth keeping the new rules in mind - and if you plan to stay longer than two hours, make sure you register your car inside the venue or pay for the additional time.

A small change, perhaps, but one that’s worth knowing about before your next visit. 🚗
