Changing Rooms Set for Makeover at Meadowside Leisure Centre

Changing Rooms Set for Makeover at Meadowside Leisure Centre

Four-to-five week refurbishment under way as Burton centre upgrades key facilities

Share:

If you’re heading for a swim at Meadowside Leisure Centre over the next few weeks, you may need to tweak your routine slightly - but there’s a good reason for it.

Everyone Active, which runs the centre in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council, has begun a major refurbishment of the changing village and surrounding facilities.

The project, which started today, 25 February, is expected to last between four and five weeks.

What’s being upgraded?

The refurbishment will transform:

  • The existing village changing area

  • Village toilets

  • The Changing Places room

  • The shower area

  • The teaching pool spectator area

Centre managers say the improvements come after listening to customer feedback, with many highlighting the need for investment in these spaces.

In a statement, Everyone Active said they appreciate there will be “a level of disruption” during the works, but have carefully planned the customer journey so that all services can continue operating - albeit with some temporary changes.

Will lessons and swimming continue?

Yes. Swimming lessons will continue throughout the refurbishment.

However, swimmers are being asked to arrive “swim ready” where possible, to help reduce pressure on the changing areas.

There will still be changing facilities available on site, and visitors will be signposted on arrival. During the first phase of works, shower provisions will remain in place as normal.

In phase two, however, the main shower area and toilets will be closed off. An accessible toilet located on the poolside will remain available, and swimmers are being asked to plan ahead due to the temporary reduction in facilities.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to take their child’s belongings with them during sessions where possible. If that isn’t practical, a

dedicated bag storage area will be available poolside.

Looking ahead

While short-term adjustments are unavoidable, the centre says the aim is to significantly improve the overall experience once the works are complete.

For a facility that welcomes families, school groups and fitness fans from across Burton every week, refreshed and modernised changing areas will be a welcome upgrade.

If all goes to plan, swimmers should be enjoying the improved facilities just in time for spring - with a fresher look and feel ready for the busy months ahead.
