📉 Good news for Burton and Uttoxeter!

Unemployment has dropped by nearly 12% over the past year, with hundreds fewer people now claiming out-of-work benefits.

While national headlines are focused on rising joblessness, our corner of Staffordshire is quietly bucking the trend.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show Burton and Uttoxeter performing strongly, with more people back in work and fewer relying on support. It’s a welcome boost for the local economy – and a reminder that resilience and opportunity are alive and well in our community.

⭕ A Roundabout Revelation in Swadlincote

Something unusual has appeared just up the road in Swadlincote – and no, it’s not an ancient monument uncovered by archaeologists. It’s the town’s newly redesigned roundabout, complete with giant white stones, pebbles and rock-filled cages. Locals have already given it a nickname: Swadhenge.

The project cost £8,000 and was designed to be safer, lower-maintenance and even attract wildlife. But while the council promises it will flourish once planting is added this autumn, opinions are already as mixed as the rocks on display. Some see a bold new landmark, others a “monumental” eyesore.

Either way, it’s got everyone talking – which is quite an achievement for a roundabout.
