🗳️ Stretton By-Election will take place on Thursday 25 June for the Staffordshire County Council ward. The vote follows the resignation of County Councillor Barry Martin earlier this month.
🏏 Newton Road Park Upgrades continue with a brand-new cricket strip now installed. The park also offers free football, tennis, basketball and outdoor gym facilities, plus a new defibrillator and blood loss kit.
🛍️ TGJones in Cooper’s Square has announced it is closing down. The store replaced WHSmith earlier this year following the retailer’s rebrand.
🛍️ Boyes Opens Tomorrow in the former Wilko store at Burton Place, with doors opening at 9am. The department store chain takes over the vacant unit in Burton town centre. |
The Burton Ale Trail returns from June 4th to 7th, bringing a lively celebration of the town’s famed brewing heritage, this year with a World Cup-themed twist.
A record 17 pubs and clubs are joining in, from storied favorites to new haunts, each offering its own taste of Burton’s beer culture and history.
Thousands of ale lovers - local and visiting - are expected, with highlights like football-inspired décor and special T-shirts adding to the festive spirit.
The event aims to showcase Burton’s unique brewing legacy - born from the town’s unique water and exported worldwide - while raising funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK.
Major support comes from longstanding breweries, including Burton Bridge Brewery and Samuel Allsopp & Sons.
Organisers invite everyone to soak up the atmosphere and savor each stop, promising a journey through a truly living brewing tradition. Read More... |

Aldi manager Dave Cotton has run more than 698 miles in six months, nearing halfway through his year-long “No Days Off” challenge for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Starting on January 1st, the Burton runner set out to run a 5K every day for a full year, braving rain, snow, and heat to maintain his streak around Burton and Stretton, and even on holiday in Palma Nova.
Friday 29th May marks day 182 and 1,124 kilometres completed, a milestone achieved with impressive dedication, including breaking the 20-minute barrier for a 5K.
The fundraiser has already gathered £2,270 of its £5,000 target, with strong support from locals, customers, and his store colleagues fueling Dave’s resolve.
He’s even taken his running challenge to the pitch at Derby County, and with half a year to go, his commitment remains unstoppable. Read More... |
Staffordshire’s new weekly food waste recycling service is off to a strong start, with Burton households among the early leaders in participation.
Since its March launch in East Staffordshire, the county-wide program has already collected a remarkable 801 tonnes of food waste in April alone.
East Staffordshire residents filled nearly 200 tonnes of caddies in just a month, eagerly embracing the new system of separating leftovers, tea bags, and peelings from general rubbish.
The collected waste is transformed into renewable electricity and fertiliser for local farms and green spaces, boosting sustainability.
Councillor Andrew Mynors praised the fantastic early response and highlighted how small changes at home can make a big difference countywide.
Officials hope the scheme will also inspire families to reduce food waste overall - benefiting both the environment and their wallets.
The service will soon expand to South Staffordshire, Staffordshire Moorlands, Lichfield, and Tamworth. Read More... |
