Former Burton GP Dr. Jeremy Lockwood, well known for his care at the surgery in Stapenhill, is now making headlines for something a bit bigger than blood pressure - he’s discovered a brand-new species of dinosaur on the Isle of Wight!
Now a PhD student at the University of Portsmouth, Dr. Lockwood named the discovery Istiorachis macaruthurae, honoring famed yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur, whose roots trace to the same island.
This remarkable dinosaur, dating back 125 million years, sported a dramatic sail-like structure along its back - thought to impress rivals or mates, much like a prehistoric peacock.
Dr Lockwood’s meticulous research revealed unique features overlooked for years in museum drawers.
His discoveries have shed new light on Britain’s ancient history, with several new dinosaurs now credited to his name.
Burton locals can take real pride as one of their own continues to transform our understanding of prehistory. Read More... |
