All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton! Thursday 21st May 2026 |
📅 What’s On in Burton This Week
Another Bank Holiday weekend is here, which means Burton’s social diary has officially decided nobody needs an early night until at least Tuesday.
There’s a huge amount happening across the area over the long weekend, with live music absolutely everywhere you look - from tribute acts and acoustic sessions to full bands taking over pubs, venues and beer gardens across Burton and beyond. Whether you fancy Michael Jackson at Conkers, indie rock in Hatton, or a Sunday session at The Coopers Tavern, there’s plenty to keep the dancing shoes busy.
Families can enjoy everything from pirate-themed racing at Uttoxeter Racecourse to free crafts at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, while the ever-popular Rolleston Transport Festival rolls into Bank Holiday Monday with classic vehicles, community spirit and enough polished chrome to blind anyone if the sun makes an appearance.
Elsewhere in this week’s newsletter, we’ve got the latest weather forecast for the long weekend, local petrol and diesel prices, Business Bites, news on East Staffordshire’s new Mayor, and details of Burton’s biggest music event of the year as Sonic Boom Festival announces its 2026 lineup - including a huge free live music stage in the Market Place.
Right then. Kettle on, diary out, and we’ll see you somewhere near a stage before the weekend’s over.

Sonic Boom Festival returns to Burton upon Trent on Saturday, 12 September, spotlighting a full day of live music in Burton Market Place - and no ticket is needed for the main event.
The headline act this year is Manchester indie band Pale Waves, led by Heather Baron-Gracie, fresh from chart-topping success and a devoted following.
The stacked main stage also welcomes The Lilacs, The League of Rebelz, Vona Vella, Terrianne, and The Missing Diamonds, blending national favourites with emerging local talent.
BBC Radio 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins returns as host, with thousands expected to gather from 1pm as Sonic Boom cements its place as a culture highlight for Burton.
The festival is run in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council and Sonic Boom Music CIC, and boasts a growing reputation - including a UK Festival Awards shortlist.
Evening “Aftershock” shows will follow across the town, with further details coming soon. Read More... |
East Staffordshire has welcomed a new Mayor, with Burton’s civic chain now entrusted to Councillor Monica Holton.
Cllr Holton, appointed after the Annual Council meeting on 15 May, brings 26 years of dedicated service in the voluntary sector, specialising in crisis prevention and supporting vulnerable residents.
Cllr Arshad Afsar will serve as Deputy Mayor for the upcoming year.
Deeply committed to public service, Monica Holton’s appointment is seen as a perfect fit for a role focused on unity and community engagement.
In her mayoral year, Cllr Holton will champion four local charities: Burton upon Trent & District YMCA, Street Whyze, Mother Wilkin Centre for Senior Support, and New Era for domestic abuse victim support. Read More... |
