All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton! Thursday 18th June 2026 |
📅 What’s On in Burton This Week
Hello and welcome to this week’s InBurton Insider.
Summer has certainly arrived, and there's plenty happening across Burton and the surrounding villages this weekend. Marchington Village Festival returns for another packed weekend, while history fans can enjoy not one but two battle re-enactments, with the Siege of Tutbury and the Abbots Bromley Living History event both bringing the past dramatically back to life.
Over in South Derbyshire, the popular Swadlincote Festival of Leisure is back, and Burton Community Fire Station will be opening its doors to visitors on Saturday.
If music is more your thing, you'll be pleased to hear there's another busy weekend of live entertainment, with tribute acts, local performers and bands playing at venues across Burton, Stretton, Tutbury, Newton Solney, Hatton and beyond.
Elsewhere this week, we look at the encouraging news that air quality in Burton continues to improve, just in time for Clean Air Day. We also have details of a new survey that could help shape future electric vehicle charging options for Burton residents who park on the street rather than on a driveway.
As always, we've rounded up the cheapest petrol and diesel prices we could find locally, along with the weather forecast for the weekend ahead.
Have a fantastic weekend, whatever you're up to.

Clean Air Day is today, Thursday 18th, bringing positive news for Burton-on-Trent residents concerned about local air quality.
East Staffordshire’s air has been improving steadily, with Burton’s Derby Turn now recording nitrogen dioxide levels below the annual target for three years running.
This trend means the area could soon shed its pollution-monitoring status, reflecting significant progress.
Residents can track these improvements themselves in real time, thanks to the public EarthSense air quality portal.
Community action has been vital, involving schools, businesses, and locals.
Fifteen area schools are working on anti-idling campaigns and two Burton primaries are piloting “School Streets” to cut traffic and emissions.
Cleaner public transport is also making a difference, with new electric buses running several routes through Burton.
While Burton already enjoys relatively good air quality, Clean Air Day is a chance to reflect and help keep the air safe for everyone. Read More... |
Burton residents who park on the street face challenges switching to electric vehicles due to the lack of at-home charging options.
Staffordshire County Council is now inviting locals to take part in a new survey aimed at finding practical solutions for those without driveways.
The council is considering the installation of EV gullies - narrow pavement channels that let residents run charging cables safely from their house to their car at the kerb, reducing trip hazards and offering access to cheaper home electricity rates.
Funding from the Government’s LEVI Fund could help eligible households with installation costs, giving more people the opportunity to adopt electric vehicles affordably.
The survey, open until Sunday 26 July, gathers insight on local demand and travel habits, shaping future charging infrastructure throughout Burton and East Staffordshire.
Residents are encouraged to participate, even if they don’t yet own an electric car. Read More... |
