All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton!

Thursday 17th September 2026

📅 What’s On in Burton This Week

Hello and welcome to this week’s InBurton Insider.

There’s plenty happening around town this weekend, with live music, football, fairs, comedy and more to keep us occupied. Jekyll & Hyde is at The Brewhouse until Saturday - but don’t hang about, as this week is the only chance to see this iconic musical in town.

Elsewhere this week, we take a first look at the exciting plans to breathe new life into Tutbury Castle, including Sunday lunches, overnight stays, shepherd huts and even a possible castle slide. We’ve also got details of Staffordshire’s new Orange Button scheme, helping more people recognise when someone may be struggling and know how to offer support.

Plus, we’ve tracked down Burton’s cheapest petrol and diesel – although prices have unfortunately crept up again this week – alongside your weekend weather forecast and the latest Business Bites.

Right then, kettle on. Here’s what’s happening in and around Burton…

Bite-sized updates from the businesses that help make Burton tick.

💰 A Postcode Lottery Jackpot has brought a £1 million windfall to one lucky Burton street. One resident, who had two tickets, won £500,000, while two neighbours picked up £250,000 each.

⚽ Burton Albion suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Oxford United on Saturday. The Brewers held out until the closing stages, before Oxford scored all three goals in the final 15 minutes.

🎵 Sonic Boom returned to Burton last weekend and proved another superb success. Thousands enjoyed live music on the main Market Place stage and at venues across the town.

🕊️ Jono Hornby, a popular singer and musician who performed at many venues across Burton, has sadly passed away. We send our deepest sympathies to Jono’s family and friends at this difficult time.

🏗️ Shobnall Retail Park is finally taking shape, with work now underway on the site next to B&Q. Plans include a bowling alley, M&S Foodhall and more new businesses.

Tutbury Castle is poised for an ambitious transformation, offering locals a chance to experience nearly 1,000 years of history in exciting new ways.

Hospitality group Bespoke Inns, known for beloved venues across the area, has unveiled plans for a new Castle Atrium hosting weddings, Sunday lunches, and community events - all while preserving the castle’s unique character.

Visitors can look forward to a modern café and grab-and-go outlet, The Muster, for ice cream treats.

Upcoming highlights include boutique castle accommodation, shepherd huts, seasonal camping, and a children’s play area - plus ambitious goals for permaculture gardens and biodiversity projects.

With a focus on local produce and community engagement, Bespoke aims to keep much of the castle open to the public, blending heritage with vibrant new experiences for families, food-lovers, and history buffs alike.

A new mental health initiative, the Orange Button scheme, has launched in Staffordshire, aiming to empower local residents, organisations, and businesses to better support those struggling with mental health challenges.

Spearheaded by Staffordshire County Council, the scheme provides free online suicide awareness training for participants, who then receive an orange badge to signal they are ready to listen and help guide individuals toward professional support.

Launched in line with World Suicide Prevention Day, the programme seeks to create a visible, county-wide network of understanding people - not professional counsellors, but approachable allies equipped to offer a listening ear and direct support.

With around nine people a month dying by suicide in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, officials hope the scheme will foster open conversations and reduce the stigma around mental health, giving hope to those who need it most.
