📅 What’s On in Burton This Week
Welcome to your latest InBurton Insider – your weekly reminder that no matter the season, Burton never sits still.
This weekend is shaping up to be a properly busy one, with something going on pretty much everywhere you look. Live music is once again taking centre stage (some gigs even selling out 👀), alongside quizzes, karaoke, racing at Uttoxeter, a spot of wargaming, and even pro wrestling making an appearance. All perfectly normal behaviour for early February in Burton.
Away from the events, we’ve also got your weekend weather (spoiler: fairly wintery but nothing dramatic), news of a £15m boost to tackle Staffordshire’s potholes, and a heads-up about a nearly two-week closure of the A38 coming at the end of March - the sort of thing it’s good to know before you’re stuck in it.
So whether you’re planning a full diary or just fancy seeing what’s happening around town, scroll on for the full lowdown on what’s on in Burton this weekend… 👇

🎲 Learn to Play - Wargaming Day |
Saturday 7th February | 1pm–5.30pm
Ever fancied commanding an army without the paperwork? This Saturday, Burton Banter is hosting a Learn to Play – Wargaming Day at Inclusive Spaces on Hawkins Lane, and everyone’s invited.
Whether you’re completely new to wargaming or already a seasoned general looking to meet fellow players, this relaxed afternoon is all about giving things a go. There’ll be a range of games available to try, friendly faces on hand to explain the rules, and plenty of chances to chat, play, and get involved.
Best of all, it’s free to attend, open to all, and runs for a comfortable four and a half hours - plenty of time to roll some dice and see what all the fuss is about. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, especially if you like your hobbies with a side of community spirit. |

If there were a Burton pothole fan club, its members would have plenty to talk about.
Now, Staffordshire County Council has announced a £15 million boost over the next two years to tackle the area’s notorious pothole issues.
The new funding targets less dangerous but persistent potholes that make daily drives in Burton uncomfortable, while the worst hazards will still be fixed within 24 hours or seven days (depending on category).
Importantly, local highways teams will have more input on where fixes are needed most, focusing resources on trouble spots that matter to Burton’s communities.
Peter Mason, the council’s Strategic Highways lead, stressed that tackling the backlog means smoother, safer roads and improved efficiency, with whole-stretch repairs reducing future problems.
Burton residents can hope for fewer bumpy rides and perhaps fewer jokes about dodging potholes downtown. Read More... |
The A38 will be fully closed in both directions near Lichfield from Friday 27th March to Wednesday 8th April 2026, affecting one of Staffordshire’s busiest roads south of Burton due to major HS2 bridge works at Streethay.
If you travel north from Burton, you’re in the clear as usual.
But heading south beyond Lichfield means a total road closure between Swinfen Interchange and Hilliard’s Cross.
This necessary work will realign the A38, allowing the new HS2 railway to pass beneath, though drivers should prepare for disruption.
Locals are urged to plan alternative routes, allow extra time, and avoid the A38 south of Burton during this period.
Expect heavier-than-normal traffic on local roads near Lichfield, with even shortcuts likely to face delays.
Once reopened, the main carriageway should operate normally, but planning ahead now will help everyone steer clear of hassle later. Read More... |

If you’re looking for a local window fitter you can genuinely trust, Yoxall Windows is one of those rare businesses that really stands out - not because of flashy sales tactics, but because of honesty, craftsmanship, and brilliant customer service.
Yoxall Windows is run by Dan Phillips, based in Hamstall Ridware, just outside Burton. With over 25 years’ experience in the double glazing and home improvement industry, Dan has built a reputation across Burton, Swadlincote, Lichfield, Uttoxeter and beyond for doing things the right way - turning up when he says he will, communicating clearly, and delivering top-quality work.
One of the biggest reasons customers love Yoxall Windows is simple: there’s no sales team. You deal directly with Dan from the first chat to the final installation, which gives homeowners real peace of mind.
Whether it’s energy-efficient UPVC windows, composite doors, bi-folds, conservatories, roof lanterns, or even fascias, guttering and general building work, Dan handles every job with the same care and attention. |
