All the Good Stuff Happening in Burton!

Thursday 27th August 2026

πŸ“… What’s On in Burton This Week

Hello and welcome to this week’s InBurton Insider.

The Bank Holiday weekend is here, which means an extra day off for many of us - and thankfully, there's plenty going on around Burton to fill it.

We've got Party in the Park, Gatefest, live music, festivals, family fun and Steaming Days at Claymills, plus lots more running right through to Monday.

🌦️ The weather isn't looking quite as glorious as we've enjoyed recently, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that it stays mostly dry. This is a British Bank Holiday, after all - asking for sunshine as well as Monday off might be pushing our luck.

Elsewhere this week, we've got the latest Burton Business Bites, important details about the A38 closures and restrictions starting in September, and our latest check of petrol and diesel prices around Burton.

So, grab a cuppa and enjoy this week's InBurton Insider. β˜•

Bite-sized updates from the businesses that help make Burton tick.

⚽ Burton Albion celebrated a superb 2-1 away win over former Premier League champions Leicester City on Saturday. Matty Dennis and Kegs Chauke were on target for the Brewers.

🚦 Henhurst Hill Traffic Lights are set to be installed at the junction with Postern Road and Hopley Road, near The Acorn. The high-tech system will adapt to real-time traffic conditions to help manage the flow of vehicles.

Gatefest at The Gate Inn, Branston

Gatefest comes to Branston this Sunday

πŸ“… Sunday 30 August | πŸ“ The Gate Inn, Branston

If you're wondering how to make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend, Branston has a brand-new event hoping to provide the answer.

The Gate Inn is holding its first-ever Gatefest this Sunday, with a full day of live music, food, stalls and family entertainment.

There's a packed line-up of performers, including Dannie Marie, Josh Hart, Sarah Kathleen, Deloreans, The Ginger Gentleman, GSG, a Zara Larsson tribute and The Gate Ukulele Band.

Away from the music, there'll be stalls selling handmade gifts and wax melts, cakes from The Icing Treasure and face painting for younger festival-goers.

And nobody should be going home hungry. Food options include smashed burgers, Anoki street food, Fully Loaded and an ice cream van, alongside plenty of cold drinks from the pub.

It all adds up to a good old-fashioned summer Sunday: live music playing, something tasty in your hand and, with a little cooperation from the Burton weather, hopefully some sunshine too.

Major improvement works on the A38 between Burton and Derby will begin on Monday, 21 September 2026, focusing on the bridge near Willington and Egginton.

The project will continue until summer 2028, aiming to keep the A38 open, but drivers should expect narrow lanes, a strict 40mph speed limit, and numerous overnight closures between the A5121 at Claymills and the Toyota Interchange.

From September 2026 to August 2027, two narrow lanes will operate in both directions.

Afterwards, traffic will be reduced to one lane each way until June 2028.

Key overnight closures will take place on selected weeknights for bridge work and traffic management, especially relevant for shift workers, holidaymakers, and evening commuters.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect some delays, and keep an eye on updates as work progresses.
