Burton's Beer Barrel Fountain has been saved, after developers officially withdrew their demolition plans. It’s a big win for local heritage – and for the many InBurton Insider readers who contacted the council and our MP, Jacob Collier.

East Staffordshire Borough Council confirmed the decision this week.

It’s now possible the fountain could be relocated elsewhere in the town, with the new High Street development suggested by some (including us) as a potential site.

A big thank you to everyone who took action after last week’s article. A small but meaningful victory for Burton - and a timely reminder that local voices matter.

Big news for the town centre - East Staffordshire Borough Council has approved funding for the first three phases of the High Street regeneration project, backed by the Towns Fund. This means work can now begin on transforming key sites like The Water Tower, Bass House, and the new Washlands Visitor Centre.

The first phase, including demolition and site prep, kicks off soon - with the initial Washlands work set to finish by summer 2025.

It’s a major step forward in breathing new life into the area near Burton Library and reconnecting the High Street with the Washlands.

Many thanks for reading this week's Insider.

I bought a vinyl record yesterday called "Sounds Wasps Make". When I got home and played it, I said to myself, "this doesn't sound anything like wasps". Then I realised I was playing the bee side.
