🏰 Tutbury Castle to Reopen in 2026 with New Local Operators and a Fresh Vision |
Much-loved landmark set to reopen in 2026 with café, farm shop, events and more under new local management |
A beloved Burton landmark is set to reopen its gates, with exciting plans to become a top local destination once again.
After months of mystery and quiet restoration, the future of Tutbury Castle is looking bright - and very local. Bespoke Inns, the respected company behind well-known pubs like The Dragon in Willington, The Boot in Repton and The Hart in Uttoxeter, has officially announced it will be taking the reins at the historic site.
In partnership with The Duchy of Lancaster, Bespoke Inns will bring the 11th-century castle back to life in early 2026, following a £1.2 million restoration project that has been carefully preserving its centuries-old charm.
Their plans? Ambitious, community-minded, and full of promise.
The castle grounds will feature a reimagined café and restaurant, a farm shop showcasing local produce, a play area for younger visitors, and a packed calendar of public events designed to make the most of the castle’s dramatic setting. And yes, it will still be available for weddings and private events - ideal for anyone who’s ever dreamed of saying “I do” with a backdrop of medieval stonework and sweeping views.
Tutbury Castle has long held a special place in the heart of Burton and surrounding villages. From Mary Queen of Scots to medieval reenactments, it’s seen its fair share of drama over the years. Since closing in 2024, there’s been much anticipation about what might come next - and now we have our answer.
Bespoke Inns, known for their warm hospitality and attention to detail, seem a perfect fit to give the castle its next chapter. Their proven success in revitalising pubs and restaurants across the region bodes well for a site as special as this one.
We first reported back in August that the Duchy was seeking a new operator for the castle. It was described at the time as a rare opportunity to take on not just a building, but a piece of living history. Now, with Bespoke Inns stepping forward, the castle will soon return as a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike.
It’s a win for Tutbury, a win for Burton, and a win for anyone who enjoys a good cuppa in a castle courtyard.
📅 Mark your diaries: Tutbury Castle is expected to reopen to the public in early 2026 - and we’ll keep you posted on the grand reopening plans as they’re announced. |
