Jacob Collier urges council and heritage body to protect beloved brewing landmark after local campaign sparks swift support. |
On Monday, we revealed that a planning application had been submitted to demolish Burton’s iconic beer barrel fountain. We also launched a campaign to help save it, asking Insider readers to contact the council and our local MP, Jacob Collier.
A huge thank you to everyone who sprang into action so quickly. We’ve still got work to do, but the early signs are promising.
Thanks to the many messages he’s received from constituents, Jacob Collier MP has now confirmed that he’s written to both the council and the National Heritage Trust, urging them to preserve this proud piece of Burton’s brewing heritage and find it a new home somewhere in the town.
Here’s his full statement…
"Thank you to the constituents who have reached out to me regarding the potential demolition of the beer barrel fountain on Station Street
![]() I know it is important to many Burtonians that our brewing heritage is protected and showcased, and as a Burtonian, it is important to me too.
Earlier this week I contacted East Staffordshire Borough Council regarding the demolition plans, I have also contacted the National Brewery Heritage Trust about the possibility of relocating the beer barrel fountain to elsewhere in the town.
The beer barrel fountain is a historic piece of Burton past and must be kept within the town as part of our brewing heritage
![]() I will continue to keep you all updated on these discussions."
