Floating Market returns to Burton’s canal for Bank Holiday weekend
Colourful canal boats, handmade crafts and tasty treats will line the towpath at Shobnall Fields over the Early May Bank Holiday.
Burton’s canal towpath is set to become one of the town’s most unusual shopping streets next weekend as the Burton-on-Trent Floating Market sails back into town.
Across the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, a fleet of trading canal boats will moor up along the Trent & Mersey Canal at Shobnall Fields, turning the waterway into a lively floating marketplace.
Visitors can wander along the towpath from Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May, browsing stalls set up directly on board the boats between 10am and 5pm each day.
The travelling market brings together independent traders from across the canal network, each selling their goods from the decks of their boats. Expect everything from handmade crafts and original artwork to vintage clothing, quirky gifts and plenty of tempting food to keep shoppers fuelled as they explore.
It’s a colourful sight too, with traditional narrowboats lining the canal and creating a cheerful festival atmosphere along the water. A perfect excuse for a canal-side day out
The market’s location at Shobnall Fields makes it easy to turn the visit into a full day out.
The open parkland next to the canal is ideal for picnics or letting the children burn off some energy, while the nearby paths offer a pleasant stroll along the water. The flat towpath is also great for pushchairs and dog walkers.
In short, if you fancy something a little different this Bank Holiday, head down to the canal. You might just find your next favourite craft, snack… or even a new appreciation for life on the water. 🚤 |
