With the festive season just around the corner, East Staffordshire Borough Council has confirmed that wheelie bin collections in Burton on Trent will continue as usual throughout the Christmas and New Year period - with just a few small changes to accommodate the bank holidays.

Regular bin collections will go ahead on all normal days except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. If your usual collection falls on one of these three holidays, don’t worry - the Council has arranged early or rescheduled collections, so your festive waste won’t be hanging around for long.

Here are the dates to note:

Normal Collection Date Rescheduled Collection Date
Thursday 25th December 2025 (Christmas Day) Saturday 20th December 2025
Friday 26th December 2025 (Boxing Day) Saturday 27th December 2025
Thursday 1st January 2026 (New Year’s Day) Saturday 3rd January 2026

Residents whose collections fall on these days should make sure their bins are out by 6.30am on the rescheduled date to avoid being missed.

To help with the extra rubbish that tends to build up over the holidays, households affected by these changes can also put out up to three additional bin liners of grey bin waste alongside their grey wheelie bin on their revised collection day (either 27th December or 3rd January).

♻️ A Quick Reminder:

  • Blue bin/bag recycling and general waste collections will continue on their alternate weekly schedule.

  • Only residents whose collection day falls on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year’s Day need to take note of the changes above.

  • All other collections will continue as normal – even during the festive period.

So, there’s no need to panic about wrapping paper pile-ups or leftover turkey trays - just mark your calendars, pop your bins out on time, and enjoy the festive season with a tidy conscience.
