🎶 Burton Music Festival Now Open for Entries - Show Off Your Musical Talent This April

A celebration of local musical talent - now also welcoming guitarists for the first time

If you’ve never heard of the Burton Competitive Music Festival, you’re probably not alone - but you might just be missing out on one of our town’s most quietly impressive annual traditions.

Now in its 23rd year, the festival will return to the Brewhouse Arts Centre on Sunday 19th April 2026, welcoming singers and musicians of all ages to compete, perform, and celebrate live music in all its forms. Whether you’re a budding soprano, a piano prodigy, or a guitar whizz, there’s a class for you - and trophies to be won!

So what is the festival all about?

It’s part concert, part competition, and entirely about supporting local musical talent. Think of it as a chance for performers - from first-time soloists to seasoned pros - to get up on stage, show what they can do, and receive feedback from expert adjudicators. There are 35 different classes across Vocal, Piano, and for the first time this year, Guitar.

Each entry is judged by professionals provided by the British & International Federation of Festivals, with trophies, prizes, and even some cash awards for the standouts. But it’s not all about winning - every entrant receives detailed feedback, making it a brilliant learning opportunity as well as a confidence boost.

What’s new for 2026?

The big news is that Guitar has been added as a brand-new category. That includes electric guitar classes for different age groups, an open acoustic class, and even a combined acoustic guitar and singing option - ideal for any Ed Sheeran hopefuls out there.

Vocal performers can also look forward to some exciting new additions, including a Musical Theatre Recital Class featuring three contrasting songs from the world of stage and screen. There’s also a dedicated class for singing teachers and professionals, keeping the standard high and the inspiration flowing.

Fancy getting involved?

Applications to take part close on Saturday 28th February 2026, and entries are open to anyone - young or old, beginner or expert. Whether you're preparing for a music exam, looking for performance experience, or just want to give it a go, this could be your time to shine.

For full details on how to enter, the full syllabus, and all the class categories, just visit the festival website.

And even if you're not taking part, come along on the day to cheer on our local talent. You might just discover Burton’s next big star - or at the very least, enjoy a cracking day of live music in the heart of town.
