Burton's Brewhouse Theatre Bids for £300k Auditorium Makeover
First major revamp in over 30 years planned for Burton’s key arts venue
The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton could be in line for a major facelift, as East Staffordshire Borough Council has submitted a £300,000 funding bid to the Arts Council to upgrade the venue’s ageing auditorium.
The much-loved arts centre, which has hosted countless theatre shows, art exhibitions, live music, and community events since opening in 1991, is hoping to replace its outdated seating and improve other key parts of the space that are now showing their age.
If the funding is approved, the work would mark the first significant upgrade to the auditorium in more than three decades. Around half of the funding would go towards new retractable seating, with the remainder covering further improvements to enhance the audience experience.
The council says many of the current fixtures are coming to the end of their life, with maintenance costs starting to rise. By investing now, the hope is to reduce future repair bills and improve comfort for visitors. An additional £30,000 in matched funding will be needed to meet the full cost of the project, which is expected to be sourced locally if the bid is successful.
A decision on the funding is due by the end of March. If approved, work is expected to be completed within the year, bringing a fresh lease of life to one of Burton’s most important cultural venues.
The Brewhouse is a vital hub for the town’s creative life, regularly hosting local and touring productions, exhibitions, workshops, and community events. This upgrade would ensure it continues to serve Burton residents for many more years to come. |
