Discount retailer Boyes set to open in former Wilko store |
National discount chain Boyes is set to move into the former Wilko unit at Burton Place, bringing thousands of home and family products to Burton town centre. |
A new retailer is set to move into one of Burton town centre’s most prominent empty units.
Discount chain Boyes is preparing to open a store in Burton Place, taking over the large unit previously occupied by Wilko.
The store will sit within the Burton Place shopping area at Worthington Walk and is expected to bring the company’s wide range of household and family goods to the town.
Boyes currently operates around 90 stores across the UK and is known for its traditional department store style layout, offering a large mix of products including homeware, clothing, cleaning supplies, crafts, DIY items and seasonal goods. In total, the retailer stocks around 30,000 different products.
Signs that Burton would be the chain’s next location appeared earlier this month when job adverts for managerial and customer service roles were posted online, listing Burton upon Trent as the store location.
An official opening date has not yet been confirmed by the company. However, with recruitment already under way, it is widely expected that the new store could open later this year - hopefully quite soon.
The move will bring fresh life to the former Wilko unit, which has been vacant since the retailer’s closure in 2023. For shoppers in Burton, it also means another option for affordable everyday goods in the town centre.
Further details, including an opening date, are expected once recruitment for the new store is complete. |
