🅿️ Barton Marina Parking Charges Put on Hold - For Now |
Controversial new fees delayed at the last minute as businesses raise concerns |
Plans to introduce new parking charges at Barton Marina have been paused just days before they were due to come into effect.
The charges had been scheduled to start on Saturday 6th September, as part of a wider project to expand and improve parking at the popular waterside destination. According to site operators, a visitor survey had suggested that parking availability was becoming a growing issue, prompting the proposed changes.
However, the rollout has now been postponed due to what’s been described as an “unexpected issue”. There’s no confirmed new date for the charges to begin, but organisers say the delay won’t affect the marina’s ongoing improvements.
The temporary U-turn follows growing concern from some of the independent businesses based at the marina, including The Red Carpet Cinema and Café. The cinema has voiced strong opposition to the charges and says it’s exploring legal avenues to challenge the decision, citing long-standing parking agreements and customer access as key concerns.
While this may only be the first act in what could be a longer drama, for now, visitors can continue to enjoy free parking as normal. The marina remains open as usual, with its shops, restaurants, walks, and entertainment venues welcoming visitors daily.
So if you’re planning a coffee by the water, a film night, or just a peaceful stroll around the lakes, you won’t need to feed a meter just yet. |
