150 New Jobs Coming to Barton-under-Needwood as Rail Firm Expands |
Major investment by Wabtec to boost local employment and modernise UK rail manufacturing |
There’s a big boost coming to Barton-under-Needwood, as a leading rail manufacturer is set to expand its local operations - bringing 150 new jobs to the area.
Wabtec, a major player in the rail industry, has announced plans to grow its Barton facility by over 7,000 square metres. The upgraded site is due to be completed before the end of 2026 and will eventually support around 500 employees.
The move is part of the company’s wider strategy to modernise its operations and improve efficiency across the UK rail sector. The expanded site will bring together multiple production lines under one roof, helping to streamline manufacturing and support a greener, more up-to-date rail network.
While this development follows the company’s decision to close its site in Doncaster, the investment in Barton-under-Needwood signals a long-term commitment to the local area—and to keeping high-quality rail manufacturing firmly rooted in Staffordshire.
East Staffordshire’s economy is set to benefit from the injection of skilled jobs, and the presence of a strengthened, modern facility will further boost Barton’s growing reputation as a centre for high-value industry.
Work is already under way to support staff affected by the Doncaster closure, with some roles expected to move to the new Barton site as part of the transition.
It’s always good to see investment and growth in the area, and this project promises just that - more jobs, more opportunity, and another reason to feel proud of what’s happening right here in our corner of Staffordshire. |
