📅 What’s On in Burton This Week
Hello and welcome to this week’s InBurton Insider.
There’s plenty happening around Burton this weekend, but Saturday belongs to Sonic Boom, with live music taking over the Market Place, Market Hall and venues across town – plus a few after-parties for those determined to keep going. 🎸
Elsewhere, there’s a ghost walk, drag bingo, Northern Soul, a vegan market, wedding fair, mentalism and plenty more live music. There’s even Hymns, Pimms and Proms – quite the combination.
📰 In the news, the Government has paused the big local council reorganisation plans, while a free Cost of Living Support Event is coming to Burton Town Hall later this month.
⛽ We’ve also found the cheapest petrol and diesel in town – although prices have rather unhelpfully jumped by around 6p a litre since last week – plus your weekend weather forecast.

Plans for a major council restructure in Burton have been paused after an initial proposal to replace East Staffordshire Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council with a much larger unitary authority.
The revised structure, which aimed to merge Burton with neighbouring areas like Stafford, Lichfield, Tamworth, and South Staffordshire, will undergo further review by the Government.
Local Government Secretary Angela Rayner cited updated legal advice and a need to ensure the process was robust and compatible with the new administration’s devolution plans.
For now, life in Burton remains unchanged - existing councils will continue managing local services while the review is underway.
Next year’s elections will proceed as planned, based on current council boundaries.
Staffordshire County Council leader Martin Murray voiced frustration at the last-minute delay but vowed to keep pushing for a stronger, locally empowered authority.
For Burton residents, no immediate action or changes are required as the restructuring plans are on hold. Read More... |
Burton Town Hall will host a Cost of Living Support Event on Wednesday, 23 September, offering vital help for local residents.
The event, organized by East Staffordshire Borough Council and MP Jacob Collier, runs from 10am to 12pm and welcomes everyone with free entry and no booking required.
Attendees can access practical advice directly from local organisations covering finances, benefits, energy bills, housing, employment, mental health, and family support.
Councillor Simon Slater emphasized the convenience of having all services under one roof, aiming to simplify the search for support.
MP Jacob Collier highlighted ongoing concerns with daily expenses and praised the hard work of the area’s support groups.
