Burton’s Derby Road drivers have faced months of traffic cones and delays as the £2.3 million A5121 resurfacing scheme enters its next stage.
Staffordshire County Council reports that the project, which spans the busy stretch between Derby Turn and the Pirelli roundabout, has now reached it's halfway point.
Earlier work included drainage repairs, kerb replacements, and footpath improvements, with crews now set to focus on stripping and strengthening the main carriageway beginning Monday 3 August.
A major change comes Sunday 9 August, when Derby Road will close completely - from Pirelli Island to number 91 - for around a week.
Businesses such as The Maltings Industrial Estate and Coytes Carpets, along with residents, will be affected, with diversions via Hawkins Lane and limited driveway access.
The council assures drivers the work remains on track, promising a smoother, safer route into Burton within a few months. Read More... |
Burton gains a fresh twist this summer with the arrival of the Trentlings, twelve mischievous characters inspired by local history, industries, and legends.
Launched by East Staffordshire Borough Council, the interactive Trentlings Trail invites families to hunt for these figures across The Washlands using the free Discover East Staffordshire Trails app, revealing each Trentling via augmented reality.
Fans can snap photos, test their knowledge in quizzes, and dive into the stories behind characters like Trentor, Modwen, and Alaburton.
This playful project also includes a collectible card game launching at The Brewhouse Arts Centre, where players pit Trentlings against each other in friendly competition.
Created by Tilley Bancroft and writer Helen Young, the Trentlings are designed to bring Burton’s vibrant spirit to life for locals of all ages.
